Lewis Moore wasn't even insured to drive the hatchback

A driver who hit speeds of up to 140mph as he tried to getaway from police on the M6 motorway has been jailed.

Moore, who wasn't insured, also used the hard shoulder to undertake vehicles in his way, police said, as he starts a prison sentence of 24 weeks. He was sentenced at North Staffordshire Justice Centre last Friday, January 24, and was also banned from the road for 14 months.In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "Moore, behind the wheel of a blue Ford Fiesta ST, refused to stop for officers from our road crime team , near junction 14 on the northbound carriageway.

RCT officer, PC Kara Pilarczyk, said: "We are extremely grateful to the public who saw what was happening and gave officers plenty of space to work safely and detain the driver.
