Jadon Sancho didn't make the Man Utd squad on the opening weekend of the Premier League season and his future is still in doubt.
What Manuel Ugarte and Jadon Sancho did on Friday night remains unknown, but what they didn't do is play football for the clubs that pay their wages. Ugarte was left out of Paris St-Germain's squad for their opening Ligue 1 game and the same fate befell Sancho against Fulham.
That makes their situation around financial fair play rules pretty tight and sales are a necessity. United have been interested in Ugarte, 23, all summer but have struggled to agree a fee with the club. The holding midfielder is desperate to make the move to Old Trafford and United remain confident of doing a deal given PSG's situation.
There is another solution and it's one we saw in the Premier League before the latest PSR deadline of June 30, when clubs close to breaching the rules agreed transfer deals with each other. Aston Villa, Everton and Chelsea all signed and sold academy graduates to each other to get around potential issues.
