The Manchester Evening News's Christmas campaign raised a remarkable £28,000 for Humans MCR, a Blackley-based food bank providing festive hampers to those in need across Greater Manchester. Reporter Greta Simpson shares her experiences of running the campaign and highlights the impact it has on families facing poverty.

Hello, Merry Christmas Eve! It's the day before the main event, but I have to admit that today might be my favorite day of the whole festive period. But beyond the trappings of Christmas, the campaign is about being remembered, seen, valued and included. You may be struggling to afford the essentials – but at Humans, you still will get a yule log and a chocolate coin. “Depressingly, Lewey also said that the campaign could have been five or six times bigger than the 1,030 people they delivered to. The people they serve are just a fraction of those facing poverty in Greater Manchester – a fact which has totally opened my eyes to the levels of deprivation that lives next door to comfort in our regio
