Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt believes the club needs a significant overhaul and at least three to five years of rebuilding before they can challenge for the Premier League title again.
Nicky Butt, a former Manchester United midfielder, believes that the club is currently far from challenging for the Premier League title. He suggests that it will take at least three to five years for United to reach the level of their rivals, such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea. Butt emphasizes the need for significant investment in four or five top-quality players to bridge the gap.
He argues that Manchester United no longer possesses the authority to attract the best talent, citing Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze as an example of a player who would have joined Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson's reign. Despite the appointment of highly-rated manager Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's performance has deteriorated further. The club is currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table, with a goal difference of minus six after losing 11 out of 24 league games. Butt believes that winning a cup might be possible with some luck, but a serious challenge for the Premier League title remains a distant prospect. He criticizes the lack of a strong leadership core within the current United squad and urges the club to spend heavily on players of exceptional caliber, similar to the £80 million signings of the past.
