Man United's last two performances have brought the best out in some players and the worst in others.
Scoring 79 goals and registering 70 assists since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, the Portuguese international has been a shining light in what continues to be a frustrating period for the club. He has consistently delivered the goods, reaching double figures for goals in every season since he arrived at Old Trafford, and has often been their best performer, stepping up when others have cowered.
Still without a goal so far this season, the skipper has not been at his sparkling, denying United of their most productive architect. He has failed to pull the strings in the way he has so often in the past, with his performance against Twente uncharacteristic to say the least. Particularly at Palace at the weekend, the way in which he dropped into pockets of space to get on the ball and orchestrate United attacks was impressive. United were less productive inside the final third after he was withdrawn and replaced by Marcus Rashford after 61 minutes.
