Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has reassured Manchester United's new manager, Ruben Amorim, that the Gunners are not interested in signing any United players in the upcoming January transfer window. Winterburn believes that current United form wouldn't attract interest from Arsenal.
Nigel Winterburn has assured Ruben Amorim that he need not be concerned about Arsenal targeting his Manchester United players in the January transfer window. Amorim took the reins at Old Trafford in November following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag and has been tasked with restoring the club to its former glory. With United currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League standings, the Portuguese manager may be looking to bolster his squad.
However, Winterburn, an Arsenal legend, believes Amorim has little to worry about when it comes to rival clubs like Arsenal poaching his players. In an exclusive conversation with Mirror Football via William Hill, Winterburn said: 'Well, I'm not sure whether Arsenal would be looking. Well, certainly on form they wouldn't be looking at United players at the moment.'\The words will undoubtedly be welcomed by Amorim, who will potentially look to keep a hold of his most valuable stars while improving on areas which have been lacking this season thus far. It has been suggested that the Portuguese boss is eyeing up a new striker to sharpen United's attacking prowess in the January window, especially as the future of Marcus Rashford remains up in the air. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour under Amorim, and has struggled to secure game time as of late - despite netting more goals than first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund in the league this season. Rashford has achieved four goals and an assist in 15 Premier League games for the Red Devils, while Hojlund has only managed half of his team-mate's tally in the same amount of games - shining instead in the Europa League. United have recently been linked with Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who is currently enjoying a loan spell with Galatasaray in the Super Lig. While the Nigerian forward appears to be happy plying his trade in Turkey for the time being, although a reported break clause in his agreement could see his loan spell terminated early if a suitable transfer offer is made. With a year left on his current contract and a reported £75million release clause, Osimhen won't prove a cheap transfer for United at present. Osimhen isn't the only name that the Red Devils have been linked with either. It is also reported that the club are considering a move for PSG superstar Randal Kolo Muani - who has struggled to find his footing since making the switch to Ligue 1 from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023
