Marielle Denise Venida, an Auckland-based sprinter, has set the athletics community abuzz with her recent performances on the track.
Venida clinched two gold medals at the event, including a standout performance in the women’s under-20 100-meter finals, where she clocked an impressive 11.65 seconds in the recent ICTSI-Philippine Athletics Championship. Lydia de Vega-Mercado’s Philippine record has already been broken by Kayla Richardson, who, at 18 years old, posted an 11.70-second finish during the 2015 SEA Games.
Aspiring to join the Philippine national squad, Venida has already competed in five meets this year, including the Philippine national championships.
