THIS is the moment a masked moped gang makes gunshot gestures as they try to steal a motorbike outside a university while terrified students cower in a nearby cafe.
A brave onlooker is seen approaching the thief to try and get him to stop but he backs away when threatened with the bolt cutters. They said: "The incident took place right in front of the offices and we couldn't believe this would happen at the campus. "I've been left feeling really unsafe riding again around Manchester and even started thinking about moving to a safer area of the UK.
Senior officers defended the tactic, saying it was needed to stop dangerous chases and has helped reduce moped-enabled crime in London by over a third. However, under existing laws, cops chasing moped thugs are subject to the same legal test for careless and dangerous driving offences as members of the public.Cops who face charges often have to wait years before having their names cleared.
