BARANGAY Health Wellness party-list Rep. Angelica Natasha Co on Friday said the government must invest in child care to ensure that our children will do better in school and eventually become productive members of our communities.
Co, chairman of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children, made the statement as she rallied support for the proposed Magna Carta of Day Care Workers.'We must focus on improving the plight of over 86,000 child development workers, day care workers, and early childhood teachers all over the country,' she said. She said there are around 900 child care facilities that require funding in order to be turned into National Child Development Centers .
'The slightly more challenging bill is the proposed Magna Carta of Day [Care] Workers because of the qualifications standards, financial capacity or incapacity of LGUs, and ways needed to protect child development workers and day care workers,' she added.According to Co, out of the entire 86,000 child development workers, less than 9,000 hold permanent posts. The remainder are casuals, contractuals, job orders, or agreements covered by memoranda of understanding.
