Over 1500 accounts have still not been closed
But while a large number of account holders have since made contact to close their accounts, there are still 1500 live accounts with the bank.
Any money left in accounts not closed by March 31 will be secured in a designated bank account and customers will have to submit an application for payment of unclaimed balances after the bank has closed.Councillor Daniel Lennie, the convener of Corporate Services, said: “I would urge account holders to get in touch before the end of the month to close their account.
“People with accounts not only have savings, but also have other payments and payments made to other parties linked to their accounts. Councillor Michelle McGinty, the vice convener of Corporate Services, added: “I would encourage people to check with friends and family to see if they have an account, even if they haven’t used it in a while, they still need to contact us and close their account.
