Matthew McConaughey was spotted at a UT Women's basketball game cheering on his daughter Vida. The actor also discussed his role as a UT Austin professor and his 'minister of culture' responsibilities.
Matthew McConaughey showed his dedication as a father by taking his 15-year-old daughter, Vida, to watch the UT Women's basketball game against Tennessee on Thursday night. The Oscar-winning actor, 55, who graduated from UT Austin in 1993 and currently holds the position of professor of practice at the Moody College of Communication, was intensely focused on the game as the Longhorns faced off against the Lady Vols.
After a nail-biting match, both McConaughey and his daughter, whom he shares with wife Camila Alves, were ecstatic when their team emerged victorious from the Southeastern Conference. The Longhorns secured the win with a narrow 80-76 score, clinching the last four points of the game.Earlier this month, McConaughey celebrated Vida's 15th birthday with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. He shared a childhood photo of her gardening and captioned it, 'Vida. 15 years. Thanks for being my tech guru, so savvy, and for loving to grow things. Love Papai.' Vida is McConaughey and Alves' only daughter and made her acting debut in 2021 with a small role in her father's movie 'Sing 2.' The family also includes sons Levi, 16, and Livingston, 12.McConaughey is a frequent presence on the UT Austin campus, where he serves as the university's self-proclaimed 'minister of culture.' This unofficial role seems aimed at fostering a strong sense of pride in the university, not just among students but the entire community. Joining the UT Austin's Radio-Television-Film department as a faculty member in 2019, he had previously served as a 'visiting instructor' starting in 2015. He graduated from the university in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in Radio-Television-Film, initially intending to pursue a law degree. McConaughey, who views the Moody Center as a 'natural extension' of his 'minister of culture' role, collaborated with Oak View Group, Live Nation Entertainment/C3 Presents, the University of Texas, and Dell Technologies to bring the Moody Center to life. The 15,000-seat arena, costing a staggering $375 million, is located on the UT Austin campus in the heart of Downtown Austin. Designed with concerts in mind, it promises to offer state-of-the-art amenities and top-tier hospitality for artists and fans. McConaughey's return to Texas in 2012 after marrying Alves marked a significant shift. He embraced the Austin culture, frequently attending UT Austin sporting events. In 2021, while promoting his animated film 'Sing 2,' he revealed to Jimmy Fallon that he had considered running for governor of Texas but ultimately chose to prioritize his family. He stated that politics 'is not the category for me at this point in my life.' Last year, he and his wife reflected on their move from Hollywood to Texas for a more private life on the cover of Southern Living.
