Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday, Nov. 15, commended the QCPD personnel who died in a shootout with a man who was involved in an indiscriminate firing incident in Caloocan City on Sunday, Nov. 13, for his courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday, Nov. 15, commended the Quezon City Police District personnel who died in a shootout with a man who was involved in an indiscriminate firing incident in Caloocan City on Sunday, Nov. 13, for his courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Belmonte also expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased police officer, identified as Cpl. Noel Ogano of the QCPD Special Weapons and Tactics team. “Kahanga-hanga ang kanyang tapang at dedikayon sa tungkulin na panatilihing ligtas ang ating QCitizens sa anumang panganib ,” the mayor said.
According to the QCPD, Ogano was among those who responded in Barangay 177, Caloocan to arrest Martin Nunez, 42, a former Philippine Merchant Marine Academy cadet who was behind the indiscriminate firing incident that brought fear to the residents of Bougainvilla St., Maligaya Park Subdivision, Brgy. Pasong Putik, Quezon City at 10:30 a.m on Sunday.
Police tried to convince Nunez to surrender, but instead, the suspect suddenly fired his gun towards the policemen which led to a shootout.Belmonte said the city government is ready to extend help to the families of Ogano and Castillo.
