Hundreds of McDonald's employees in the UK are suing the company for widespread harassment, alleging ongoing sexual abuse and a hostile work environment. The company's CEO is facing scrutiny from MPs over these claims.

McDonald's is facing new allegations of widespread harassment in its UK restaurants, with 700 employees joining a class action lawsuit. Staff claim they continue to experience sexual abuse and harassment, a year after the fast food chain pledged to address the issue. The company's UK head was summoned to testify before MPs today regarding these allegations. The BBC reports that a 19-year-old employee stated that managers would 'touch up' other staff, causing colleagues to fear going to work.

A worker at a Scottish branch said he has been repeatedly subjected to 'degrading and humiliating' verbal abuse by colleagues. The UK equality watchdog has received 300 reported incidents of harassment following an initial BBC investigation into McDonald's and plans to intervene again. A McDonald's spokesperson said the company has undertaken 'extensive work' over the past year to ensure it has industry-leading practices in place to protect its workers. Allegations against the company include a worker quitting her job in the West Midlands at the end of 2023, claiming managers inappropriately touched her and customers sexually harassed her. She said she reported it but was told to 'suck it up'. A 16-year-old employee at a West Midlands branch claims he was bullied, yelled at, and sworn at by managers. A former female worker, 20, said she left her McDonald's branch in the East of England in August after a male manager sent her topless pictures. These claims all relate to events after November 2023, when McDonald's UK boss Alistair Macrow first appeared before parliament's Business and Trade Committee. Mr. Macrow told MPs then that the company was taking action to improve working conditions after the BBC uncovered widespread concerns about staff treatment
