A measles alert has been issued for southwest Sydney after health officials were told a child had visited several locations while infectious.
NSW Health said the child had recently from the Middle East where there were recent outbreaks, but they weren't considered infectious on their flight to Sydney.
Officials warned that anyone who had attended a range of locations in Bankstown, Greenacre and Yagoona should watch for the development of any symptomsPeople who visited the flagged locations were told to look out for symptoms up until Friday 7 June. Bankstown TAFE playgroup on Tuesday, May 14 between 10 am and 12.15 pm.NSW health officials will attempt to contact anyone who attended Greenacre Medical Centre on May 18 between 12 pm and 2.30 pm, and Yagoona Family Healthcare between 12.
"Symptoms to watch out for include fever, sore eyes and a cough, usually followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash that spreads from the head and face to the rest of the body," South Western Sydney Local Health District Director of Public Health, Dr Mitchell Smith said. "It can take up to 18 days for symptoms to appear after an exposure, so it's important for people who visited these locations to look out for symptoms up until Friday 7 June.""This should be a reminder for everyone to check that they are protected against measles, which is highly infectious," he said.
