One New Jersey competitor, Kavya Jakasania, from Jersey City, is among those returning to the national spelling bee for a second time. The 14-year-old previously represented Hudson County in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee. She made it to the semifinals last year. Likes to bake, including pretzels, which are her favorite treat, and enjoys playing the guitar, knitting and finding new interests on the Internet, according to her bio.Previously competed in the 2023 spelling bee, tying for 23rd place.
