International Lego Day is here, and while Lego itself isn't offering much in the way of sales, Mega Bloks has some great deals on Amazon. Check out these top picks, including Pokémon sets, Halo Infinite, and more.
Today officially marks International Lego Day, celebrating the almost 70-year anniversary of when Lego first patented its LEGO bricks design in 1958. Lego has since become a global phenomenon, and some of its creations have evolved far beyond the category of toys, now acting as profound works of art and even home decor. While Lego has a massive global reach, I'm surprised that there's not more hype surrounding International Lego Day.
From an e-commerce perspective, I haven't been able to find any promotional offers or sales to celebrate the occasion. What's up with that? All is not lost, however, as Mattel's own Lego alternative brand, Mega Bloks, has some generous discounts available at Amazon right now. I've rounded up some of the best sets for you below, including several that I own like the Pokémon Snorlax set. Mega Bloks offers a wide range of building toys, including some fantastic Pokémon sets. One standout is the mighty Gyarados, a popular first-gen water Pokémon. This 2,186-piece set is fully mechanized to allow for swimming along the waves with its tail flapping and mouth opening wide. For fans of the classic monster movies, there's a buildable King Kong action figure that stands 8 inches (20cm) tall and includes a scaled waterfall side build perfect for display. This set comprises 541 bricks. Another great value option is the MEGA Bloks Stadium set, which includes everything you need to build the training stadium, plus 5 Pokémon: Pikachu, Machop, Eevee, Fuecoco, and Hawlucha. It also has launchers for battling Pokémon. If you're a Beatles fan, there's a Mega set that includes LED lights to illuminate the Ed Sullivan Stage, plus 4 poseable action figures for a rewarding building experience. This set comprises 681 bricks and pieces. Another mechanical Pokémon build comes in the form of Charizard, arguably one of the coolest Pokémon out there. This 1,664-piece collector set lets you move the wings, legs, arms, tail, and head however you please. For younger builders, there's a 130-piece Pokémon set that includes four buildable gen-1 Pokémon. Each figure is poseable and comes with its own environment stand. Looking for something a little different? The 2,041-piece Halo Infinite tank set is a great choice for those seeking a fun and rewarding build. You get 5 poseable and super detailed action figures included, plus a swivel crane. For those who love Pokémon and charming landscapes, there's the adorable Pokémon Countryside Windmill set (240 pieces) which offers a windmill and picturesque grassy environment, complete with Pikachu, Pidgey, and Wooloo figures. It has motion to control the windmill and can connect seamlessly to other Pokémon MEGA sets for a larger landscape. Last but not least, we have the Snorlax Mega building set, which stands over 4 inches tall! With 246 pieces, you can pose it in several different ways, and it looks epic on my gaming shelf.
