Former horse trainer Thomas Hughes will walk out of prison in three months after stabbing a long-term friend and his housemate on the same day. 9News
King was found bleeding in the laundry after Hughes stabbed her in the chest, thigh, knee and her lung was punctured in the attack.
Hughes was arrested after police spotted him driving between Yarraville and Kensington the following day.He appeared by video link from prison in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and placed on a two-year community corrections order.Hughes, who pleaded guilty to charges including reckless conduct causing injury, threats to kill, false imprisonment and failing to stop for police, has already served nine months of this sentence.
Magistrate Jarrod Williams acknowledged Hughes had reached the lowest ebb of his life when he attacked Gray and King. He said psychiatric evidence showed Hughes was suffering from a psychotic episode when he stabbed the two victims, where he held delusions his roommates were gassing and poisoning him.Continue reading
