The grand estate Avon Court in Hawthorn was snapped up by a mystery buyer in what is expected to be Victoria’s highest residential sale this year.

Melbourne’s landmark trophy home Avon Court has sold two and a half weeks after it was listed with a price guide of $38 million to $41 million, in what is expected to be the highest residential property sale in Victoria this year.Burton’s Grant Samuel. Both Mr Chen and Mr Samuel confirmed the sale, but would not be drawn on either the price or the identity of the incoming owner, citing a nondisclosure agreement.

The outgoing Du family purchased the property on blue-chip Shakespeare Grove in 2014 for $19.8 million from AutoBarn co-founder, the late Garry Dumbrell. Mr Dumbrell paid $20.25 million in 2009 when he picked up the sprawling estate from Richmond football club president Clinton Casey, who left his AFL imprint on the three-storey home in the form of a tiled image of Tigers’ great Jack Dyer on one of the seven bathroom walls.
