Come rain or shine, they boast breathtaking views and are perfect for a stroll or a relaxing day out. With summer round the corner and the sunny skies beginning to make it onto the forecast, we've rounded up some of the most beautiful beaches near Liverpool and Wirral.
"The red brick remains of the nation’s first lifeboat station are here too. The work of the former pirate turned Liverpool dock master William Hutchinson, it was built in the 1770s and crewed by volunteers who shared a guinea for each life saved off the shifting sands at the mouth of the Mersey." With this stretch a the National Trust Formby, where you can enjoy a walk through the pinewoods - home to the red squirrels - before or after visiting the beach.Parking: Parking is available at the Squirrel Reserve and beach car park, which is free to National Trust members and £3 for other visitors.
When you reach the far end you can refresh yourself in the licensed cafe. Back on the beach treat yourself to fish and chips and take in the view of nearby Blackpool - when the sky is clear you’ll even see the famous tower. In the summer it's also a great place to watch the Red Arrows at the Southport Air Show.Parking: On site parking - Beach parking off Marine Drive, Southport, £4.50-£6.00 .Dog friendly: Yes. Poop scoop area and there are some dog free zones.
