The Met Office solar storm warning is in effect as the forecaster says the Northern Lights could dazzle people in Scotland tonight.
The chance of seeing the Northern Lights is "enhanced" on Monday night due to what is termed as a Coronal Mass Ejection. These occurrences are expulsions of the sun's plasma, which cause disturbances in Earth's magnetic field that give rise to the celestial display. What time to look for the Northern Lights Dark, clear nights are the best conditions for viewing the Northern Lights. Whilst summery weather has been rare this year, the daylight hours still stretch to 9:30pm, meaning darkness may not fully set until around 10pm.
