But before you pack up your shorts and get out the Halloween pumpkins, it's worth remembering that autumn hasn't officially arrived yet. According to the Met Office, we still have a little while longer to wait.
This revelation has been backed by X users, who are urging people to stop wishing the year away. One wrote: "I don't know who needs to hear this but summer isn’t over until September 22nd." And second user wrote: "SUMMER DOESN’T END TIL SEPTEMBER 22nd!! Like omg why y’all such in a rush??" The start and end dates do not align. Astronomical summer starts on a solstice and ends on an equinox, whereas meteorological summer always starts on the first day of June and ends on the last day of August.
Overall, these definitions serve different purposes: astronomical for understanding the seasons in terms of Earth's orbit, and meteorological for practical and statistical uses in weather and climate studies.
