Silent lightning is an unusual but not uncommon natural phenomenon
Following an extended period of extremely high temperatures, many people across the UK, including Greater Manchester, reported seeing lightning without any thunder over the weekend.
The Met Office earned that there could be flooding, hail, strong winds, and thundery showers in the coming days, Yorkshire Live reports. Silent Lightning is a phenomenon in which lightning occurs but is not followed by the usual roll of thunder. This is due to the fact that it comes from a distant thunderstorm that is too far away for people to hear any noise.
While silent lightning doesn't have as much as a threatening aura due to the lack of rumble, it still poses the same risks as any other storm. Therefore, if you spot lightning with or without noise, you should take the necessary safety precautions and remain safely inside wherever possible.
