Although we're decidedly in a spate of damp autumn weather, winter is just around the corner, and the Met Office has given predictions on when the first snow could fall when the season arrives.
We're not yet far into October and the weather is decidedly more wet and dreich than cold and crisp, but experts are already predicting when the UK could see its first snow.
It is expected to peak around December, meaning the UK could face icy blasts with temperatures plunging during the final month of the year. Previous El Niño years have resulted in colder winters in the UK, Birmingham Live reports. He said: "“El Niño years have a tendency to have a mild wet and westerly start to winter and a colder, drier end to winter across most of northern Europe.”
The Priestley Centre for Climate Futures at Leeds University also explained that we could expect a 'frosty' winter due to El Niño.
