The forecaster has released its next long-range forecast
After several freezing stretches of weather last month, December has got off to a slightly milder start so far - and it looks like that is set to continue, at least in the short term.
They predicted "colder, showery and windy conditions then following for the remainder of the weekend".The following week, conditions are set to take a turn for the better, with an area of high pressure and more settled conditions taking hold. The Met Office say this "should mean a good deal of dry weather, with overnight frosts along with morning fog patches for some regions".
Into the following fortnight, the Met Office continues to predict an area of high pressure and "relatively settled conditions overall" - although frontal systems, the phenomenon where two opposing air masses meet, "may still affect" the north west. The Met Office says some of these showers could be wintry, especially on high ground - so a White Christmas could be on the cards for some parts of our region.
