The Met Office has shared predictions for the upcoming Christmas season, suggesting a mix of dry, cold conditions with some spells of rain and wind. Snowy conditions may continue into late December, especially for hills in the north.
It is the perfect dream to have a white Christmas but it is often a rare occasion, yet it is a question everyone asks - so the Met Office has shared their predictions. After Storm Bert over the weekend bringing wintery conditions to Yorkshire , it turns out more will be on its way closer to or even on Christmas Day.
For this week's forecast, the Met Office said that the weather will be mainly dry with some clear or sunny spells but rather cold toward the southeast at first as high pressure over the continent. Cloudier, windier, and milder conditions are expected in the north and west with some outbreaks of rain. Early next week, it looks like the rain in the west will edge further east, bringing a short spell of rain to the east. High pressure may then re-assert itself close to or over the UK through early December. The largely dry, settled theme may be punctuated by brief unsettled spells though with areas of low pressure possibly crossing the UK, bringing some spells of wind and rain. Temperatures are generally near average, but some overnight frost is likely, and rather cold by day where any fog persists. The long-range forecast from December 10 to December 24 suggests snowy conditions will continue into late December, with high pressure close to if not over the UK at the start of the period, and a shift towards less settled conditions with west or northwesterly types bringing some wetter and windier interludes, with a risk of some snow, especially for hills in the north
