It comes amid a geomagnetic storm
The Met Office has issued an update on the Northern Lights as a meteorological phenomenon takes place. There have been hopes that Brits could see the stunning aurora displays tonight - if weather conditions are right for it.
In the Met Office space weather forecast, it was explained yesterday how the phenomenon 'may result in auroral displays' reaching as far south as northern England and Northern Ireland. But any visibility of the Northern Lights would also require a clear, dark sky. Tonight's forecast for Greater Manchester involves overcast weather, with some light rain spells. There are also fewer hours of darkness at this time of the year - which also impacts the chances of seeing the Northern Lights.
