The Met Office has announced a string of names it will assign to upcoming storms this year – here, we explain how the UK's major weather events get their names
The Met Office has shared the name of the UK's next storm amid predictions of warm weather at the start of September.
This time around, they've paid homage to notable figures from the forecaster's 170-year history, picking out names such as James – in honour of D-Day weather forecaster Group Captain James Stagg – and Mavis – a nod to one of the body's early computer workers, Mavis Hinds.READ MORE: Oasis fans 'already stressed' for one reason as Gallagher brothers announce reunion tour
"My time has come," joked another user named Kayleigh. A third chimed in: "This makes up for all the times I couldn't find my name on things as a child.
