The Met Office has issued some advice ahead of the winter months
Autumn is a matter of days away, which means temperatures will be starting to drop over the next few weeks. Cold temperatures can be a mild annoyance for some people, while for others it can pose serious health risks. The cold can cause your blood to thicken and increase your blood pressure, while the freezing air can even lead to chest infections. To help people stay safe and warm this winter, the Met Office has issued some advice.
Homeowners are advised to fit draught proofing to seal any gaps around windows and doors. You should also make sure your loft has at least 10-11 inches of insulation. Any home with four inches of insulation or less should have it topped up. If you have wall cavities, it's advised to make sure they are insulated too. Additional recommendations include insulating your hot water cylinder and pipes and making sure radiators are not covered by curtains or furniture.
