A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of the East Midlands
The Met Office has issued a weather warning, saying there's a chance of disruption as a result of severe thunderstorms today and tomorrow. They've issued a yellow weather warning for between 1pm and 6am.
The warning covers a large section of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. They say there's a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. If the county is hit by poor weather it could lead to travel disruption and power cuts, as well as flooding if rainfall is persistent and intense. Today's forecast for Nottingham does predict some rain at 6pm but at the moment there are no thunderstorms expected.Conditions are set to worsen this week though, with heavy rain sweet to hit the city on Wednesday evening and rain forecast on almost every day.
Deputy Chief meteorologist, Rebekah Sherwin, said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms will spread across much of the UK through the day on Sunday with nowhere immune from the chance of seeing them. Some downpours could lead to impacts on the transport network and with thunderstorms likely in places some temporary power disruption is possible.
"There is also the risk of hail and strong winds in places. It is likely that severe weather warnings will be issued as the confidence over the most likely areas to be affected increases."
