A council has said it is “deeply concerned” at reports that three nighttime safety volunteers were arrested while handing out rape alarms in Soho the night before theThe Metropolitan Police confirmed officers had seized “a number of rape alarms” in the early hours of Saturday over fears they could be thrown and “disrupt the procession” as the KingA 37-year-old woman, a 59-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were detained “on suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance” at around 2am and...
But there were reports that those arrested were members of Westminster City Council’s nighttime safety volunteers group Night Stars – who wear vibrant pink high-vis vests, support at-risk women and help vulnerable members of the public to ensure they get home safely. Soho is one of the areas the volunteer group operates in, according to the Westminster City Council website.
Journalist Mic Wright said one member of the trio arrested left the police station in tears after the incident. The overall police response to protesters throughout the coronation has also been heavily criticised.for offences including affray, public order offences, breach of the peace and conspiracy to cause a public nuisance, the force said.he thinks many of those arrested throughout the coronation will face no further action.
Commander Findlay said: “We absolutely understand public concern following the arrests we made this morning.
