Carlos Mendoza on Senga's latest MRI: “The results are very, very encouraging. Inflammation is gone.”

LAKELAND, Fla. — , the top starter who has been shut down since late February, received clearance from doctors to resume throwing within the next week, manager Carlos Mendoza said. Before beginning a throwing progression, however, Senga must pass some internal strength tests, Mendoza added. Senga was diagnosed with a moderate right posterior capsule strain in his shoulder in February, just before spring training games started. He has not thrown since.

Mendoza said that Senga was “feeling great” and there wasn’t any concern from the club’s perspective regarding the extended timeline of a return. “We knew from the beginning that as soon as he got that injection, it was going to be, for sure, three weeks, and then we were going to reassess,” Mendoza said. “And here we are, making sure that he clears all the hurdles. We’re very happy with where he’s at. You have to be careful. We want to make sure we do this right.
