Mets lose key pitcher in bullpen for at least 15 days, team announces
New York Mets pitcher Edwin Díaz was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement, team announced. Minutes before the first pitch in the final game of the series against the Dodgers at Citi Field on Wednesday, the Mets announced that the two-time Reliever of the Year Award winner was placed to the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement. This is another blow for the Mets bullpen, which has struggled this month.
This season, hasn’t been what Díaz expected after missing all of 2023 with an unfortunate injury he suffered during the World Baseball Classic. In 20 appearances, he’s surrendered five home runs to opponents. That’s after allowing just three home runs each in 2021 and 2022, and two in 2021. He’s allowed 14 runs after only allowing nine last season.
It appears, after this most recent news, that the Mets will have to continue mixing and matching at the position while they figure out Díaz’s latest ailment.
