Michael Beale suffered his fourth Old Firm defeat as Rangers manager on Sunday. From six derby fixtures, he has won just one and drawn one.
Beale and his side were booed off by a disgrunted Ibrox crowd after Kyogo Furuhashi netted the only goal of the Premiership clash.
Beale’s side couldn’t see the game out, though, and Kyogo earned Celtic a share of the spoils in the closing seconds. It was the mark of champions and a crucial result in their Premiership defence.Rangers had shown that they could overcome the rest with Beale in charge. Beating the best side in the league was a very different proposition, though, and hopes had faded that a potential title challenge was on the cards after that Kyogo effort at Ibrox.
Beale opted not to start either of his new recruits – Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin – and came in for criticism afterwards. The chance to lay down a marker and earn a medal was squandered.It was that man Kyogo that inflicted the fatal blows on Rangers once again. This win didn’t make the title a mathematical certainty but there was never going to be any way back for Beale’s side after his second derby defeat.
Beale labelled that moment as his side shooting themselves in the foot and promised big changes to come as he looked ahead to the summer transfer window.Sakala all had chances, but it was Celtic who were more composed and clinical once again as the Ibrox squad that had underachieved so often failed to deliver when it mattered for one last time.At the fifth time of asking, Beale finally had an Old Firm win to his credit.
