Airports, banks and TV channels have all been knocked offline by a major global IT outage.

Downdetector reported sudden spikes in problems with websites including Microsoft applications, banking websites and airline apps Flights have been grounded at Sydney Airport, United Airlines has stopped flying and train passengers in the UK have been warned of travel chaos due to ‘widespread IT issues’. Sky News’s breakfast show was not able to broadcast due to the glitch, with viewers instead left having to watch archive footage.

Microsoft said it is taking ‘mitigation actions’ after service issues, according to the AFP news agency.
