Rebecca, a midwife, noticed something was off with her newborn daughter, Zeydn. Her suspicions were confirmed when Zeydn was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes fragile bones and dislocations. Despite Rebecca and her partner's insistence on Zeydn's innocence, they were falsely accused of child abuse and their other children were removed from their care. After a long and arduous fight, they were exonerated, but the experience left lasting scars. Rebecca now advocates for parents facing similar situations through her charity, Fractured Families, and aims to pass Zeydn's Law, which would ensure parents have access to a second medical opinion for their children.
Rebecca, who's training to be a midwife, explained that she had noticed something was off with Zeydn when she tried to burp her.
Although Rebecca insisted her partner would ''never hurt'' their children, no one would listen to her - and that night all five of her kids were removed from her care by authorities. Desperate, she went online, trying to find an explanation for what could have caused Zeydn's injuries - however, the sheer volume of information proved to be overwhelming.when my phone began to beep with messages. Family and friends were urging me to switch on the news programme 20/20.
