Police Scotland 's marine unit has been drafted into the search for a missing diver who vanished in Orkney last week.
The man, a commercial scallop diver, was reported missing while working in the Scapa Flow area after 2pm on Wednesday. He has not been seen or heard from since. Two coastguard helicopters, a fixed wing aircraft, rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margarets and lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso were all called to assist with the search. Orkney Islands Council tugs were also involved.
The BBC reports that Police Scotland has since taken over the operation. The force's specialist marine unit is due to arrive on the island later.A Coastguard spokesperson said last week: "The search for a missing diver in Scapa Flow has been stood down. HM Coastguard coordinated the search for a diver who was reported missing in Scapa Flow just after 2.30pm yesterday.
"Two coastguard helicopters, a coastguard fixed wing aircraft, coastguard rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margarets and lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso all assisted in the search along with a number of vessels that were in the area. The search was terminated just after 3am this morning."
