In a new report, Angels owner Arte Moreno revealed where he'll set the team payroll next year in an attempt to end the longest playoff drought in MLB.
The Los Angeles Angels were among the biggest losers when the Detroit Tigers went on a late surge to capture the American League's final Wild Card berth. Not only did the Tigers leapfrog two teams in the standings to continue their season, they ended the longest active postseason drought in MLB — an ignominious distinction they shared with the Angels.
The owner even indicated how much he's willing to spend, telling Fletcher 'we won't go there again' in reference to the edge of the luxury tax threshold.FanGraphs pegged the Angels' final 2023 payroll at $215 million and their 2024 payroll at $176 million. It's not often that an owner outlines his payroll projection for the following season prior to the start of free agency. Moreno took a rare step by outlining a range for the Angels' 2025 payroll if only a broad one.
