The Mobile City Council on Tuesday gave the green light to a project that will completely overhaul St. Louis Street downtown.
– the St. Louis facelift will cover 17 blocks between Broad and Water streets. The design includes repaving the road, putting in new sidewalks, better delineating parking and landscaping. Work is expected to begin after Mardi Gras.
Some businesses owners and managers along St. Louis Street said they are a bit concerned about the potential disruption during construction, but they added they are trilled by what’s to come. “I am so ready for St. Louis to do the next project to make this place look magnificent,” she told FOX10 News. “It – Mobile needs it. … I think it’s gonna be a great feature for the street.”
“So I think the city’s really moved to invest in that area and help lift up the people that are moving in there,” she said. “The citizens that live there can really make it home.”
