The rescue operation at Fraserburgh Beach took 12 hours to complete, with marine experts and Coastguard teams involved
Two dolphins stranded on a Scots beach have been saved by hero RNLI crews after a 12-hour rescue mission. The marine mammals were washed up on Fraserburgh Beach in Grampian after low tides at around 6am on Monday, June 5.
A decision was made to re-float the dolphins at noon when the tide was high again. Until then, the animals were covered in wet blankets and towels to prevent them from drying out. Nothing that the rescuers could do could stop the dolphins trying to beach themselves. Members of the public also tried to help by going into the water and trying to push the dolphins back into the sea.
For hours after the rescue, a vigil stood by on the beach and coastline until at 8pm, it could be said with authority that the dolphins were back at sea and that the operation had been a success.
