MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed spoke to media Friday afternoon about this week’s resignation of former Police Chief Darryl Albert .While Reed did not specify the reasons Albert tendered his resignation, he did confirm the former chief was under investigation for sexual harassment claims and morale issues within the department. The mayor said these were factors in the administrative leave, but did not specify if they led to the departure.
Reed commended Albert work with the department but did not they have had problems recruiting and retaining officers. He also said they were worried about keeping the community’s trust. As for the former officer who filed the sexual harassment complaint, Reed said she was terminated for her job performance and not the complaint.
