The city has just confirmed to WSFA 12 News that Police Chief Darryl Albert has resigned.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The city of Montgomery has confirmed to WSFA 12 News that Police Chief Darryl Albert has tendered his resignation to Mayor Reed, and it has been accepted.for reasons that the city has yet to disclose.
Albert became Montgomery’s 15th police chief in March 2022, after leaving the New Orleans Police Department, where he was a special operations division commander. He was only on the job as Montgomery’s Police Chief for two years.according to our sister station WVUE . The station reports that he faced an internal review over allegations of violating the department’s policy on sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation while overseeing the crime lab. The investigation’s results were never released publicly.
Albert recently expanded the STAR Watch Program, which is a system of cameras throughout the city designed to help aid crime investigations. He also recently advocated for a pay raise for the department. Albert was also known for being visible in the community and communicating frequently with neighborhood watch groups.
