REPORT | More frustration for Hornets as they have to settle for a point watfordfc
Frustration was again the over-riding emotion at Vicarage Road as Watford dropped more points in their quest to strengthen their play-off bid as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against fellow top-six rivals Blackburn Rovers.
The Hornets did deservedly level when Hoedt fired home after a Ken Sema free-kick had been half-cleared, and almost immediately they could have gone in front when Sarr headed over from close range after goalkeeper Aynsley Pears had parried a Sema shot. There was more encouraging news on the bench with Imran Louza, Tom Cleverley, Sema and Christian Kabasele all deemed fit enough to be involved following their respective injury lay-offs.
Watford responded three minutes later when Pedro, dropping into more of a right-back position, spotted the run of Mario Gaspar into the penalty area but the Spaniard chose to go it alone and fired over the top. The visitors worked the ball from left to right before Thomas slipped a pass inside Hassane Kamara to Joe Rankin-Costello, who had been allowed to continue his run forward by Sarr. Hoedt was slow to react as the right-back fired in a shot which Bachmann got down to at his near post, but pushed back into play and Dack took a touch before calmly finishing.
Bilic opted to make a change at the break, bringing on Davis for Araujo, and the hosts had their first semblance of an opening when Sarr did well to accelerate away down the left, avoiding the challenges of both Morton and Hayden Carter who both slid in to no avail, before finding Martins, but the Brazilian’s first touch was heavy and the chance was lost.
Both sides made changes on the hour; Buckley and Sam Gallagher replacing Morton and Thomas for the visitors, while Sema made his return from injury in place of Martins.
