Children in Lancashire are facing another day off school due to the wintry weather. The region was hit with another night of bitterly cold temperatures with people waking up to mercury levels well below freezing this morning (January 9). It comes after flurries of snow in recent days, with roads and pavements dangerous and treacherous today. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering part of Lancashire remains in force until 11am today.
Areas including Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire are affected. A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) amber cold health alert for the North West is also in force until Sunday amid days of bitter temperatures. Some schools across Lancashire are keeping their doors closed for a fourth day this week due to adverse weather conditions.
