Labor leader Jared Cassidy has used his Brisbane City Council budget reply speech to ramp up his campaign for better footpaths and household services.
Labor will cut Brisbane City Council spending, prioritise footpath repairs over unnecessary projects and introduce a food recycling program if it wins the 2024 elections.
Cassidy also promised to review the range of external consultants now employed by the LNP administration in an effort to keep downward pressure on rates.“Labor will be auditing all external contracts to ensure value for money, stamping out ratepayer-funded political advertising,” he said.He said too much was being produced outside the council itself.“We should be delivering more basic services in-house and making more things here.
“In the words of the great Australian philosopher, [singer] John Paul Young, Adrian Schrinner and the LNP are ‘yesterday’s heroes’,” he said.A Labor council would introduce food waste bins to remove 100,000 tonnes of organic waste from landfill each year.
