Morrisons supermarket has expanded its Aldi and Lidl Price Match scheme to include over 500 products, offering shoppers competitive prices on essential items.
A supermarket that's working out cheaper than Aldi and Lidl for a basket of essentials is now price match ing the retailers on more than 500 products. We reported at the weekend how both Morrisons and Asda are currently beating the budget stores in our weekly price comparison, which monitors the cost of the same eight items from the six main supermarkets. It's quite a turnaround for the retailers, who have previously been criticised for their high prices.
Now Morrisons, which has been impressing shoppers with its More Card offers of late, has expanded the number of products included in its Aldi and Lidl Price Match scheme, which launched in February 2024. It's added more than 100 popular items such as coffee, eggs and olive oil to the scheme, meaning more than 500 products are now matched in price to either Aldi or Lidl, whichever is cheapest. Gareth Lloyd, head of price at Morrisons, said: 'We’re starting 2025 by doubling down on value for our customers. Expanding our Price Match means more of the essentials and brands customers love at the prices they expect, with the quality they trust from Morrisons. 'This builds on the savings and rewards we’ve introduced throughout the year – from price cuts to better deals for our More Card members. It’s all about helping shoppers get more for their money.' Aldi has always argued that its weekly comparison doesn't take into account the difference in quality, insisting that its tea bags and coffee are 'higher quality' than the comparative products used and its tins of beans are heavier than some of the others. It's previously said that the price match schemes - which also run at Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's - cover just a small percentage of products sold by the other supermarkets 'while our customers get Aldi prices on everything, every day
