Supermarket chain Morrisons has implemented a nationwide initiative to make its cafés more accessible to visually impaired customers by introducing braille menus. This change was driven by customer feedback and aims to create a more inclusive dining experience.

Morrisons has implemented a nationwide initiative to enhance accessibility for its customers. A significant step in this direction is the introduction of braille menus in all of its café locations nationwide. This change comes after the supermarket actively sought feedback from visually impaired customers who shared that dining in a café environment often presented challenges.

Each café will now feature a braille menu, offering all the same information about meal options and promotions that are available on the standard menus, but presented in a format accessible to those with visual impairments. Sean Gill, the director of cafés at Morrisons, expressed the company's commitment to inclusivity: “It can be easy to take everyday tasks like ordering in a café for granted. We are always looking for ways to better support our customers and the rollout of our braille menus comes as a direct result of listening to those who visit our cafés and are visually impaired. The change will make a big difference for the people that need it the most. We look forward to making our cafés a more inclusive experience for all our customers to enjoy tasty food at an affordable price.”This initiative has also received praise from Guide Dogs, a charity dedicated to supporting people with sight loss. A spokesperson for Guide Dogs stated: “Enabling people with sight loss to have the best experience and the same access as everyone else is an important part of ensuring they can live independently, actively and well. Introducing braille menus is a welcome step in ensuring Morrisons stores are more accessible, as well as working with us to make sure all guide dog owners are rightly welcomed in-store.
