Morrisons supermarket branches in Nottinghamshire and across the UK are facing empty shelves due to a cyber attack on the company's software provider Blue Yonder. The attack, confirmed as a 'ransomware incident', has affected fruit, vegetables, and meat sections, while tinned goods, dried foods, and frozen items remain unaffected.
Empty shelves have been seen at a Nottinghamshire Morrisons after branches of the supermarket across the country were affected by a cyber attack . The company providing software that Morrisons uses to manage its warehouses, Blue Yonder , has confirmed that it has experienced disruption due to a "ransomware incident".
Shoppers across the country have now been reporting empty shelves at Morrisons, with fruit, vegetables and meat reportedly being most affected. Items such as tinned goods, dried food and frozen items are unaffected. New pictures show that the branch of Morrisons off Idle Valley Road in Retford has been one of scores impact by the incident. Several boxes on the fruit and vegetable aisles were completely empty.The photos, taken at around 2.30pm on Wednesday , show items including potatoes and carrots were particularly affected. Other parts of the store were stocked to normal levels.
A spokesperson for Morrisons told The Mirror: "We are currently operating satisfactorily on our back up systems and we're working very hard to deliver for our customers across the country." A Blue Yonder spokesperson told The Mirror: "Blue Yonder experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which was determined to be the result of a ransomware incident.
"Since learning of the incident, the Blue Yonder team has been working diligently together with external cybersecurity firms to make progress in their recovery process. We have implemented several defensive and forensic protocols. We have notified relevant customers and will continue to communicate as appropriate."
