A large group attacked police officers, set cars on fire and threw bricks at the mosque
Members of a mosque targeted in last night's Southport riots said the scenes were 'insulting'. A large group of people attacked the Southport Islamic Society Mosque on the corner of Sussex Road and St Luke's Road. Following a vigil for those affected by the Southport stabbings , the group tore bricks from garden walls and threw them at the mosque, smashing some of its windows, and a convenience store.
What followed last night on the part of the far-right was an insult to the families and a town that is collective in its grieving.” Residents of Southport are cleaning up in the aftermath of the horrific scenes. Norman Wallis, owner of Southport Pleasureland, told the ECHO: 'We're all coming together to try and help the people in Sussex Road and the area to clean up for the mess that was made by all those people, those thugs, that came into their street.
