North Lanarkshire Council is investing in fire safety upgrades for two Motherwell tower blocks, Calder and Elvan Towers, with a new sprinkler system installation.

North Lanarkshire Council is seeking a contractor to update fire suppression systems in Motherwell tower blocks. The local authority has advertised a contract for the design and installation of new sprinkler systems and all associated works at two buildings - Calder and Elvan Towers. The contract has an estimated value of £1.6 million and work is expected to be completed within eight months.

Each tower is 12 storeys high and contains 46 flats, and the new sprinklers are required as they have each had their roofs replaced, creating a new internal space which requires coverage. Tasks to be performed by the appointed contractor include design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the sprinkler systems and associated building services in addition to any necessary work or alterations to existing systems, as well as accredited fire stopping. The contractor will also be responsible for securing the relevant building warrants and pay all related fees. Consultants will also be required to carry out structural investigations and design supporting works relating to the external water tank which will supply the sprinklers. The contract also requires ferro scanning to be carried out in order to ensure structural reinforcement and integrity is maintained during this work. The full notice is available on the Public Contracts Scotland website where eligibility details can also be reviewed. The tendering deadline is February
