Motorist caught driving 72mph in 30mph zone as traffic police clamp down on speeding

A motorist was captured driving at 72mph in a 30mph zone by traffic police - almost two and a half times the legal speed limit - as traffic police spent just under four hours capturing offenders.

Greater Manchester traffic police have been out on speed enforcement at various locations throughout the city today. They captured 242 speed offences in three hours and 45 minutes. The driver caught doing 72mph was the fastest speed recorded in a 30 mph zone.Police took to Social media site Twitter to advertise the results of their work. In a tweet they stated: #TrafficPCSOs have been out speed enforcement at various locations today.

Twitter users commented on the post, with some thanking GMP for their efforts. One said: "Well done @gmptraffic thank you for trying to make our roads safer." Another user cited an area he sees as problematic, saying: "Blackburn Rd, Moss Bank Way, Crompton Way, Bolton.. These are effectively racing tracks, at times today...Someone innocent will get badly hurt, because of these mindless scumbags..."One said: "Well done, they may well have saved people lives in the future when those drivers or vehicle owners get the fines and think i could have avoided this fine.
